The Origin of Guirlache
Guirlache is a traditional sweet made with almonds and caramel, typical of the Valencian Community and other regions such as Aragon and Catalonia. Its recipe, closely linked to nougat of Arab and medieval origin, resembles French Provençal nougat. In fact, the term “guirlache” comes from the French word grillage, which means “toasting.” Although recipes may vary, the basic preparation involves melting sugar with almonds—sometimes with lemon or honey—and letting the mixture cool to achieve a crunchy, delicious texture. The master confectioners at Turrones Agut de Benlloch have a long history of producing nougat and traditional Christmas sweets. Their meticulous production process respects traditional techniques and guarantees a final product of the highest quality and authenticity.
